Tunisia is ranked second in the world after Spain for olive trees area. It has 70 million olive trees covering about 1.7 million hectares, which represents 20% of the olive trees world area.
Tunisia is also the first worldwide producer of organic olive oil with an average yearly production of 25,000 tons.
With an average annual production of 170,000 tons, Tunisia is the largest producer of olive oil outside the European Union and is the 4th largest in the world after Spain, Italy and Greece.
Located between the desert of the Sahara, the Atlas mountains and the Mediterranean sea, Tunisia microclimate is characterized by extreme contrasts from north to south.
